Dr. Syed Amir Ali is a distinguished banking and financial services professional with extensive experience in Islamic banking, corporate and investment banking, institutional leadership, and financial transformation. He currently serves as President & CEO of Meezan Bank, Pakistan’s largest Islamic bank. He is also a member of the Executive Committee of the Pakistan Banks Association and serves on the Boards of Al Meezan Investments and Meezan Exchange, contributing to the governance and continued development of Pakistan’s Islamic financial services sector.
Dr. Ali joined Meezan Bank in 2006 and, over the course of his career, held senior leadership responsibilities including heading the Corporate & Investment Banking Group. From 2018 to 2023, he served as President & CEO of Bank Islami Pakistan, where he led a significant institutional transformation. Under his leadership, the Bank’s profitability increased nearly 50-fold, supported by a broad-based transformation in business strategy, operating performance, and financial outcomes.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Ali gained experience across professional services, energy, and multinational organizations through his roles at A. F. Ferguson & Co., a member firm of PwC, Pakistan Refinery Limited, and Shell.
Dr. Ali brings a distinguished combination of professional and academic credentials. He is a Harvard Business School alumnus, CFA Charterholder, and Chartered Accountant (Gold Medalist), and holds a PhD, MBA (Gold Medalist), and LLB. He has also completed a Certificate in Software Engineering, reflecting his longstanding interest in technology, digital transformation, and innovation within financial services.
