Chairman National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), Tauseef H. Farooqi, visited OICCI on Friday, October 7, 2022 for an interactive session with OICCI members, who are largest block of foreign investors in Pakistan, hailing from 31 countries and doing business in 14 sectors of economy.
In view of the increasing interest of OICCI members in utilizing clean energy and the launch of Competitive Trading Bilateral Contracts Market (CTBCM) this meeting provided an opportunity to learn the way forward of NEPRA to create an efficient energy market in Pakistan.
Markus Strohmeier, Management Committee Member of OICCI, Co-chair of its ESG subcommittee and Managing Director of Siemens Pakistan, and M. Abdul Aleem, Secretary General OICCI, welcomed the esteemed guest on behalf of members.
Abdul Aleem initiated the session with a brief introduction of OICCI by sharing its history and research profile, its contribution to economy, snapshot of energy related recommendations and highlighted the key issues members are facing that relate to power and energy sector, including implementation of CTBCM and contradictory conventional and renewable energy policies.
Tauseef H. Farooqi, thanked OICCI members for inviting him and the opportunity to expand upon his undertaken initiatives like power with prosperity, security, and equality, etc. Emphasizing upon the need for deregulation, he stated that CTBCM will be the game changer in revamping the Power sector by opening the market. He addressed and clarified the concerns of members and stressed that the initiatives taken by NEPRA will invite private players, attract technology, competition and innovation in the Power sector.
Markus Strohmeier thanked the Chairman for his valuable time and an engaging session, which comprehensively covered NEPRA’s initiatives to improve the Power sector.
