OICCI hosted a Security Awareness Session on “Geopolitical Instability & Business Security,” delivered by Brig (Retd.) Muhammad Zubair, Head of Security, United Energy Pakistan on January 27, 2026.

He was welcomed by OICCI SG M Abdul Aleem and Assistant Manager IT and Administration Syed Waqar Arif.

The session examined the evolving global and regional geopolitical environment, beginning with a broad mapping of international flashpoints and strategic messaging by major powers, before narrowing focus to developments in the Middle East, particularly Iran, and their implications for regional stability.

Brig (Retd.) Zubair outlined Iran’s historical cycles of unrest and the cumulative impact of prolonged sanctions regimes, including currency hyper-devaluation, energy and water shortages, and economic stress.

The discussion further covered Pakistan’s immediate neighborhood, including Pakistan–Iran trade dynamics under sanctions and the sharp decline in Pakistan–Afghanistan trade amid ongoing security challenges. The session linked these geopolitical developments to business risk, emphasizing impacts on supply chains, operating costs, investment confidence, and overall ease of doing business. He stressed the need for corporate leadership to: proactively assess geopolitical risks; strengthen business continuity planning; leverage technology to optimize security costs; and maintain good relations with neighboring countries.

The session was followed by a Q&A session with member company representatives attending online and in person.
