The OICCI held an exclusive event upon the launch of the second edition of its IPR Manual ‘Evolution of Intellectual Property Rights in Pakistan: OICCI Perspective (Edition 2)’ on Monday, April 29th 2024.

The new IPR manual is aimed at supporting investors and innovators, focusing on strengthening intellectual property laws in Pakistan.

Mr. M Abdul Aleem, CEO/General Secretary of OICCI, gave the opening remarks, stressing on the importance of robust IPR protection to attract foreign direct investment.

Experts like @Usman Javed Altaf, Group Director of Legal & Intellectual Property at Martin Dow and lead OICCI IPR core group, pointed out that copyright infringements can endanger consumers by exposing them to counterfeit goods.

Despite comprehensive legislation, OICCI members agreed that there is a need for a more robust enforcement of IPR by the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPOP) and other law enforcement agencies.

Further in the session, Mr. Ali Kabir Shah from Ali & Associates presented the new IPR manual, while Mr. Aman Ghanchi, Executive Director Legal and Company Secretary Unilever Pakistan, and member OICCI IPR Core Team emphasized using media to raise awareness to safeguard both consumer interests and government revenues.

The event was concluded by a compelling keynote by chief guest Mr. Farukh Amil, Chairman of the Intellectual Property Organization of Pakistan (IPOP). Mr. Amil emphasized on how Intellectual Property is connected to the development of Pakistan and is a critical tool for the country's empowerment.
