OICCI hosted an interactive session with a delegation from the Directorate General of IPR Enforcement, Pakistan Customs, led by Abdul Qadir Memon, Director General and Muneeza Majeed, Director, South (Karachi) on September 28, 2026. The delegation was welcomed by OICCI, Executive Director, Kashif Shafi and Corporate Communications Lead, Humayoun Khan.

Kashif Shafi opened the session and presented the Chamber’s work on intellectual property rights, including its IPR Survey. Drawing on recent member feedback, he raised concerns about counterfeit imports, misdeclaration and undervaluation, and called for stronger coordination across Customs, information sharing with rights holders, training in counterfeit detection and a responsive IPR Enforcement contact point in Karachi.

Abdul Qadir Memon subsequently briefed on the Directorate General’s role in protecting intellectual property rights at the border. Muneeza Majeed presented the legal framework and the process for rights holders to seek enforcement action from Pakistan Customs. She outlined the steps involved in filing a complaint, the powers of the IPR (E), examining suspected goods and taking enforcement action, and shared examples of recent seizures and the Directorate’s outreach activities.

The presentations were followed by an interactive discussion in which member company representatives raised practical challenges they face in protecting their brands and products. Abdul Qadir Memon and Muneeza Majeed responded to their questions and discussed how closer cooperation and timely information sharing between rights holders and Customs could support more effective enforcement.
