French Ambassador, His Excellency Mr. Nicolas Galey, along with Mr. Alexis Chahtahtinsky, Consul General, Mr. Laurent Chopiton, Head of Economic Department and Ms. Reema Sukhiani, Press Attache, at the French Embassy, paid a visit to the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) on October 17, 2023.

The distinguished guests were warmly received by Amir Paracha, President of OICCI, Mr. M. Abdul Aleem, Secretary General of OICCI, and Mr. Kashif Shafi, Executive Director of OICCI.

During the visit, Mr. Abdul Aleem delivered a comprehensive presentation on OICCI’s profile, highlighting our members’ substantial contributions to Pakistan’s economy, the pivotal role OICCI plays in facilitating the Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and the recent research studies conducted by the chamber. The Ambassador was apprised of the current economic landscape, prevailing challenges, key areas of concern and the resilient strategies employed by OICCI members during the recent economic challenges.

Amir Paracha, in his address, elaborated on how OICCI members have been adapting to the recent economic fluctuations. He emphasized OICCI’s commitment to ensuring that our members’ concerns are effectively communicated to relevant authorities. Mr. Paracha underlined the enduring appeal of Pakistan’s market, despite occasional challenges, citing its burgeoning middle class and its position as the fifth most populous nation globally. Additionally, he highlighted the attractive incentives and opportunities available to potential French investors in Pakistan, while also identifying promising sectors for investment.

OICCI’s continuous engagement with various ministries and government departments to promote a predictable, consistent, and transparent policy framework was emphasized. The Chamber also champions initiatives such as broadening the tax base and a progressive Industrial and Investment policy, all while fostering productive public-private partnerships.

The Ambassador commended OICCI’s efforts in providing a comprehensive and objective assessment of the business environment in Pakistan, backed by in-depth analysis of the current economic situation. He expressed gratitude to the OICCI team for the engagement.
