A delegation from the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Pakistan, led by Ambassador Henny de Vries and First Secretary Heske V., visited the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OICCI) on Wednesday, July 16, 2025. The delegation was warmly welcomed by OICCI Secretary General M Abdul Aleem, Executive Director Kashif Shafi, Research Officer Javaria Shaikh Ismail, Corporate Communications Lead Humayoun Khan, and Lead Research Officer Sakina Chakera.

During the visit, Secretary General M Abdul Aleem delivered a comprehensive presentation highlighting the Chamber’s key activities, ongoing initiatives, research surveys and reports, and flagship events such as the Pakistan Climate Conference, Women Empowerment Awards, and the Diversity & Inclusion Conference. The Dutch delegation appreciated the depth and relevance of OICCI’s research work, acknowledging that the insights provided have been instrumental in shaping their understanding of Pakistan’s economic landscape.

A broad-ranging discussion was held on the country’s current business climate. Kashan Hasan, CEO and Managing Director FrieslandCampina, provided a detailed account of the operational and strategic challenges faced by foreign investors in Pakistan. This led to a constructive dialogue on the macroeconomic situation, both locally and globally, and how it impacts foreign direct investment (FDI). Opportunities for investment and the persistent challenges were deliberated upon.

The Dutch delegation reaffirmed their belief in Pakistan’s significant investment potential, emphasizing its young population and untapped market opportunities. They described Pakistan as a "land of opportunities," while also pointing out the need for stronger international projection of the country’s security and safety measures to improve investor perception.

Sustainability was another important area of discussion. The delegation suggested that Pakistan should adopt a long-term strategy to showcase its sustainability efforts on global platforms. On the climate front, the Netherlands expressed willingness to share its expertise in water and flood management. Both parties agreed that knowledge-sharing sessions in these areas would be mutually beneficial and help Pakistan better prepare for the growing risks of climate change.

The meeting concluded on a forward-looking note, with the Dutch Embassy expressing a strong interest in a long-term partnership with OICCI to support shared objectives in economic development, climate resilience, and sustainable growth.
