OICCI members had an interactive meeting with the Secretary, National Tariff Commission (NTC), Ali Muhammad Shah and Director, NTC, Muhammad Arshad, on Thursday, June 8, 2023, to discuss the OICCI Duty Structure/ Tariff Rationalization Proposals for the upcoming fiscal budget 2023-24, which were earlier submitted to the Ministry of Commerce and NTC, as per past practice.

The NTC team was very receptive and supportive towards the OICCI proposals. The representatives of member companies one-by-one presented their specific sectorial proposals along with the rational to support their proposals. Mr. Arshad while responding participants informed that most of these proposals have already been reviewed in detail by the NTC and the proposals which are inline with the proposals of NTC are further forwarded for inclusion in the fiscal budget.

NTC team assured supports for all the proposals for elimination of additional custom duty and regulatory duty on essential raw materials, which are either not locally available or in limited supply, used for local manufacturing and to remove the disparity along-with specific sectors.

As a way forward, on some of the proposals Mr. Arshad advised to submit Anti-Dumping Application or for pharma specific proposals seek DRAP clearance. Few members will separately coordinate with NTC on their specific proposals.

Both teams assured full support to build cordial relationship and agreed on continue the engagement.
