OICCI hosted Dr. Najeeb Memon, Director General, Tax Policy Office (TPO), Finance Division, for an interactive session with OICCI members, focusing on taxation, policy reform, and stakeholder engagement at a critical juncture for Pakistan’s economy on January 8, 2026.
In his opening remarks, Yousaf Hussain, President OICCI, welcomed Dr. Najeeb Memon and highlighted the importance of the visit amid ongoing economic challenges. He reaffirmed that all OICCI member companies are fully registered and tax-compliant, and noted the Chamber’s continued engagement on taxation issues affecting the corporate sector.
M Abdul Aleem, Secretary General OICCI, shared consolidated member feedback on key tax-related challenges with the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), outlining specific issues faced by companies across sectors.
Addressing the session, Dr. Najeeb Memon emphasized that tax policy formulation requires reconciling competing demands from various sectors while keeping the national interest at the forefront. He stressed that while identifying problems is necessary, the real need is for knowledge-driven, data-backed solutions drawn from the corporate sector. Policy input, he noted, should focus on what works for Pakistan as a whole rather than for individual sectors.
During the discussion, Dr. Najeeb Memon underlined that proposed policies will be thoroughly analyzed before implementation to ensure they deliver the intended outcomes. He clarified that the focus of the TPO is on policy design rather than enforcement, with the objective of developing a simple and transparent tax regime that is difficult to exploit and easy to implement. He also sought continued support and guidance from forums such as OICCI.
Thanking the speaker, M. Abdul Aleem appreciated the comprehensive overview and opened the floor for a Q&A session, allowing members to share views and raise questions.
Following the Q&A, in his closing remarks, Yousaf Hussain emphasized the need for more structured dialogue between policymakers and the business community ahead of the budget. He also encouraged members to contribute ideas on how the private sector can support documentation and taxation of currently untaxed segments of the economy.
The session was attended by OICCI Managing Committee members and leadership of member companies.
