The French Consul General, Alexis Chahtahtinsky, along with Laurent Chopiton, Economic Counsellor – French Embassy, met with the OICCI leadership on March 14, 2023. The meeting revolved around gaining OICCI’s perspective about doing business in Pakistan and challenges faced by foreign investors. They were welcomed by Amir Paracha, President – OICCI, and Kashif Shafi, Executive Director – OICCI, on March 14, 2023. Kashif Shafi shared a detailed presentation which included OICCI’s brief profile, a snapshot of the members contribution to the economy, the role of the Chamber in facilitating FDI in the country, and research studies done by the chamber and the challenges faced by foreign investors. Alexis Chahtahtinsky sought OICCI’s views on investment and business conditions in Pakistan. Laurent Chopiton appreciated OICCI’s efforts in sharing a holistic and objective view of the business environment in Pakistan, and wanted a better understanding of how our members were handling the current economic situation. Amir Paracha briefed the French delegates how OICCI members are navigating through the recent economic situation and explained OICCI’s endeavors to ensure that members’ concerns are discussed in the right corridors. He also shared that most of the OICCI member have been operating in Pakistan since a long time and they understand that despite the rough patches, Pakistan’s market offers lucrative business opportunities with the growing middle class and a growing population ranked fifth in the world, currently.
