Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb visited OICCI on October 1, 2026, for an interactive session with the Chamber’s leadership and member company representatives on Pakistan’s economic outlook and priorities for investment and growth.
The Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb highlighted his recent visits to New York and London where he met senior representatives of leading global investment firms. He said the government was working to streamline the process of bringing investment into Pakistan and expressed optimism that these engagements would translate into tangible outcomes.
The Finance Minister further noted that leading international lenders and institutions had acknowledged Pakistan’s progress towards economic stability. He said the government was hopeful of achieving an improved sovereign credit rating soon.
In his remarks, the Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb also identified population growth and sustainability as important considerations in pursuing economic growth. On taxation, he acknowledged the importance of timely tax refunds and broadening the tax base, noting that the government was actively working on both fronts. He cited the reduction in Super Tax and efforts to bring retailers into the tax net as steps in this direction, while urging local and foreign businesses to support the government on structural reforms.
Responding to questions and concerns raised by member company representatives, the Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb reaffirmed the government’s commitment to continued engagement with the business community on reforms and policy priorities.
Earlier, OICCI Secretary General M Abdul Aleem highlighted the importance of translating macroeconomic stabilisation into higher domestic investment and FDI, while drawing attention to issues including pending tax refunds and access to private-sector credit. OICCI President Umar Ahsan Khan acknowledged the progress in restoring economic stability and emphasised the need for policy consistency, a competitive business environment and improved access to finance to support investment, manufacturing and exports.
Former OICCI President Yousaf Hussain, speaking on the occasion, also appreciated the improvement in economic stability and acknowledged the Finance Ministry’s efforts in this regard. Following the conclusion of his term as OICCI President, Yousaf Hussain received a souvenir from Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb.
