In a significant initiative at COP28, the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OICCI) joined forces with the Ministry of Climate Change (MoCC) to host a pivotal dialogue within the exclusive Blue Zone of the Pakistan pavilion in Expo City Dubai. Themed ‘Decarbonization and the Role of the Private Sector,’ the high-level discussion tackled key issues such as mobilizing private capital for achieving Net Zero carbon emissions, evaluating carbon market efficacy, and fortifying public-private partnerships.
The expert panel included luminaries like Dr. Karen Olsen (UNEP), Dr. Charles Ehrhart (KPMG), Dr. Anis Nassar (WEF), Fiona Duggan (Unilever), Lina Osman (Standard Chartered Bank), and Angelo Sartori (Verra). Emphasizing the urgency for businesses to decarbonize supply chains, the panel identified OICCI as a critical platform for mobilizing multi-sector business coalitions to drive sustainable practices and inform public policies.
Amir Paracha, President of OICCI, underscored the private sector's pivotal role in achieving Pakistan's Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), stating, "OICCI is dedicated to spearheading this effort and supporting Pakistan's climate goals."
M. Abdul Aleem, CE/Secretary General of OICCI, affirmed the commitment to champion private sector leadership in climate-resilient infrastructure, green energy, and sustainable agriculture, crucial for mitigating climate disasters and empowering affected communities.
