Jawad Khan, Salman Ahmad (Senior Partners) and Mosa Barlass (Associate Partner) at McKinsey and Company elaborated on the role that McKinsey shall play. Initially, focus of the partnership will be on six prioritized sectors of the chamber, with each sector being led by a relevant MC member, which includes: (1) Pharmaceuticals [Erum Shakir Rahim], (2) Food and consumer products [Amir Paracha], (3) Banking and financial services [Rehan Muhammad Shaikh], (4) Oil, gas and energy [Ahmed Zahid Zaheer], (5) Engineering and industrial products [Umar Ahsan Khan] and (6) Chemicals [Andrew Bailey].

The partnership will focus on providing productivity and innovation benchmarking for sectors against regional and global peers, curated reports on latest global insights and knowledge, and access to current innovation / best practices via pro-active engagements (e.g., expert participation, annual conferences and sector roundtables). The benchmarking exercise will help build an insightful repository of information on key sectors, and will also be used to facilitate focused dialogue with investors to attract FDI to Pakistan.

Based on the outcome of the initial benchmarking analyses, a conference may be held in Pakistan. The conference will aim to provide an overview of Pakistan’s macroeconomy and private sector, areas of future opportunity and risk, and provide a platform for dialogue among global topical experts, the OICCI, and private sector leaders.

The main stakeholders – OICCI, McKinsey, and sector participants – each have distinct roles in the partnership:

OICCI: To mobilize participants and gather support on productivity and innovation imperative for the sector, drive roll-out of benchmarking exercise and provide support in data collection and refinement of analyses. OICCI will also lead coordination and provide content support for external stakeholder engagements.

McKinsey: To build, collect and manage sectoral benchmarking data, develop relevant reports, and share global expertise as required.
