It is a great privilege and honour for me to serve OICCI as its President, and especially in the year in which it is celebrating the 150th anniversary of its founding.
I look forward to celebrating this impressive milestone with all our distinguished Members.
The OICCI is the oldest chamber of commerce and industry in Pakistan and is the voice of foreign investors in Pakistan. It is engaged in creating value for not only existing but also potential foreign investors in Pakistan for whom it acts as a thermometer. OICCI works closely with the provincial and federal governments and other policy and opinion makers in Pakistan on policy issues, building capacity, promoting employment, working for economic reforms, creating a strong intellectual property rights regime and thereby expanding investment opportunities in Pakistan. In a dynamic environment, with its ever-changing demands on business, we hope to spearhead the promotion of a conducive atmosphere for commerce and industry. We will continue to engage in furthering the business needs and interests of our members by impacting the policy and legislative environment in order to enhance their competitiveness in a fast-changing world.
With its membership of 186 leading multi- national companies, OICCI is a powerful repository of business, managerial, and entrepreneurial acumen, intelligence, and experience. Our sub-committees, which form the core of our activities and comprise experts in various fields, including energy, banking, insurance, leasing, taxation, intellectual property rights, trade, industry, pharmaceutical, and law and order etc, will continue to serve the needs of our members and respond to the challenges faced by them by safeguarding and promoting their interests.
Our combined global linkages and local presence places us in a unique position to shape the commercial and industrial environment of the country and articulate the business requirements of our members. Our contribution to the country is immense in terms of investment but also through the dissemination of best practices, managerial skills, and technical capability. We will leverage these by engaging in meaningful and relevant dialogues with appropriate authorities and stakeholders for the benefit of our members, the government, industry, commerce, trade, and the general public.
Ameena Saiyid, OBE
