president message
Welcome to the Chamber’s New Website!

I take this opportunity to thank the members for their confidence in electing me as their President and the Managing Committee for their support. It is an honour and I commit to work with the Managing Committee to justify your confidence in us and fulfill your expectations to make the Chamber an effective platform and forum for all of us.

The Chamber is an important stake holder in Pakistan. Apart from providing FDI, corporate social spending, employment and other benefits to our country, we represent the single largest group of tax payers in Pakistan. It is my intention to fully leverage OICCI’s unique and powerful position to ensure that our views and opinions are properly projected and understood by policy makers.

The Chamber also has the distinction of being the oldest Chamber in South Asia and one of the oldest in Asia and will be celebrating 150 years soon. This anniversary comes at a critical juncture in Pakistan’s history as the country is going through challenging times. The political situation, security issues, financial recession in global economies have all made our future outlook very unpredictable and difficult in many ways.

This wave of uncertainty has undoubtedly been the cause of much anxiety for investors within Pakistan as well as for principals abroad. While the situation cannot be avoided, it can be mitigated by concerting efforts. It is in these trying times that the Chamber’s role becomes pivotal and as the largest representative of all foreign investors in Pakistan, OICCI has doubled its efforts to increase interaction with government representatives to highlight concerns facing investors in general and our members in particular. This is visible from the fact that in the recent months, the Chamber’s outreach has increased significantly as has its representation on various bodies at the GoP level.

In addition to lobbying for a stronger role in policy making, the Chamber is also striving to be the focal point of information for foreign investors by working on coming out with good quality research and publications that document the views of members, outline the investments made and the taxes paid, highlight the contributions made for social development, provide complete up-to-date information of members. These efforts are aimed at portraying the ground realities, improving perception and reflecting the collective strength of our members.

I look forward to sharing further developments with you via this interactive website as well as our quarterly newsletter and other publications. As I conclude, I would like to reiterate once again that the Chamber enjoys its unique position because of the collective impact of its members. After all, the key to success is in numbers. With numbers comes power. With power comes influence. And with influence comes success.

Sincerely,
Farrukh H. Khan
