I would like to thank the members and the Managing Committee for their confidence in electing me unopposed as President of the OICCI. It is an honour and I commit to work with the Managing Committee to justify your confidence in us and fulfill your expectations to make the Chamber an effective platform and forum for all of us.
OICCI is an important stake holder in Pakistan. Apart from providing FDI, corporate social spending, employment and other benefits to our country, we represent the single largest group of tax payers in Pakistan. It is my intention to fully leverage OICCI’s unique and powerful position to ensure that our views and opinions are properly projected and understood by the policy makers. This is particularly important in the present challenging and volatile macroeconomic and political environment.
After initial discussions with the Managing Committee, we intend to focus on strengthening the organization structure of the Chamber to enable us to be more effective in our interaction with the GoP on policy matters. We will also be focusing on corporate governance in the Chamber, including a comprehensive review of the Memorandum and Articles to ensure that the Chamber operates to the highest standards and in a transparent manner. Externally, we will continue to push for timely and greater involvement in policy matters with the GoP and expand our membership base.
I look forward to sharing these developments with you as the year progresses and to meeting many of you during the year. I also look forward to working with the new Vice President, Managing Committee and the Secretary General to deliver on a comprehensive agenda for the year and your support in making the OICCI an effective and powerful platform.
