introduction
Established in 1860 as the Karachi Chamber of Commerce, the Overseas Investors Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OICCI) serves as the national point of reference for foreign investors in Pakistan. It is the oldest of the investment chambers, promoting foreign investments and contributing towards the growth of commerce and industry in the country.

The membership of the Chamber is diverse both in terms of sector and geography. The 180 members contribute significantly to the overall economy of the country. Their collective contribution amounts to more than 14 percent of Pakistan’s total GNP and 33 percent of total tax receipts.

In its comprehensive function as a facilitator to foreign investors, OICCI plays a vital role which has multiple impacts. The Chamber is frequently called upon to assist the government in formulating policy in the financial, commercial and industrial spheres, particularly where it affects the foreign investment in Pakistan. OICCI ensures that the voice of its members is heard in the right quarters and that it has influence on government policymaking. The Chamber also helps its member firms navigate through any difficulties that may arise as a result of policy implementation.

In order to promote the views of its members, OICCI also participates in the policy making process by the submission of Trade Policy Proposals and Budget Proposals to the relevant ministries after consultation with member companies.

The Chamber also publishes a number of publications aimed at serving a wider range of interests of the business community as well as the larger economy. Ongoing publications at the Chamber include the OICCI Quarterly Newsletter, Members Directory, Perception Survey, Investment Survey, Daily Political and Economic Update and Inform, a monthly events and activities bulletin. The Chamber collects statistics and information regarding foreign investment from numerous sources and conducts presentations regarding investment and business environment to several bodies such as prospective investors, foreign trade delegations and trade counselors.
